Volunteer work in Fiji
Our speaker at our meeting this morning was Hugh Smith, a pathologist by day, who volunteers on aid missions in his spare time.
Hugh spoke this morning of his most recent experience volunteering on the island of Levuka in Fiji, following Cyclone Winston. It was terrific to hear practical experience and lessons learnt: do your own planning and logistics where possible, don’t be disheartened by a lack of progress, and bring extra food when doing physical labour.
It was awesome to hear that the Rotary Shelterbox was visible, and highly regarded by volunteer organizations. Thanks for your time this morning Hugh, hope to see you back again soon.
