Vocational Meeting at Archerfield
There was a change to the usual routine today – after enjoying an excellent breakfast we split into groups to enjoy a tour of the facilities at the Airline Academy of Australia, Royal Queensland Aero Club, ATAE and Flight Experience, including the new training rooms, the simulators and the maintenance training hangar. Laurence Beraldo, as group CEO, outlined the history of the group, and its growth and plans for the future.
Historically, members of the Royal Queensland Aero Club include a “who’s who” of famous aviators including Mrs Lores Bonney, Bert Hinkler and Sir Charles Kingsford-Smith. It is one of the oldest continuous flying clubs in the world, dating back to 1910.
A few of our members and guests took the opportunity to fly the simulators and, happily, there were no virtual crashes, well, significant ones anyway. John McGhie was particularly happy to see the Nomad in the ATAE hangar.
